With a hormone imbalance, you may experience a myriad of symptoms, above and beyond the most obvious which is of course ‘PMS’.

This is because sex hormones alone are connected to over 150 different processes in the body.

If your gut is unbalanced, you may also have symptoms such as bloating, constipation, or acid reflux.

Yes, hormones are connected to your gut.

And yet this is above and beyond what is commonly understood in medical practise.

Gut health and gut bacteria are easily the most overlooked elements of hormonal balance.

This means if you are experiencing a tough menopause, thyroid issues, fibroids, breast cancer, PCOS, endometriosis, PMS (just to name a few) – you need to look at your gut health.

The microbiome is only newly considered an endocrine organ. Some consider it even more powerful than the other endocrine glands, as it controls the ginormous production of biochemical factors that maintain all hormonal balance in the body.

You won’t get anywhere in your hormone healing if you don’t also heal the gut microbiome.

How your gut is influencing your hormones:

  • Gut bacteria directly impact neurotransmitters: serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine.
  • This means gut bacteria directly impact our mood, how we feel.
  • Many studies in this new field of Phsychobiotics indicate there is a strong correlation between the gut microbiome and depression.
  • Gut bacteria impact estrogen by helping to metabolise estrogen as part of liver detoxification, protecting us from aggressive estrogen and even cancer.
  • Getting the right balance of good bacteria will helpsuppress the growth of harmful bacteria and encourage the regrowth of friendly bacteria.
  • Progesterone – a hormone that helps reduce anxiety – is also produced by the micro biome, self-regulating when and how much to produce.
  • During menopause the microbiome can help produce estriol (E3) – a positive estrogen which helps to alleviate menopause symptoms.
  • One dose of medically prescribed broad-spectrum antibiotics can decrease good gut bacteria by up to 90% – you HAVE to take probiotics to reinoculated the gut, this should be a duty of care in medicine but it is not.
  • Certain bacterial spores help reduce Hashimoto’s antibodies – a common trigger that is often missed in diagnostics.

As we can see, the key to balanced hormones really starts with a healthy gut thriving with a wide range of happy, active, friendly, bacterial microflora.

Now the question is how do we achieve this?
